Melinda Peek (with BDLC since 2000)
I’ve been an infant/toddler teacher at BDLC since February 2000. I have a CDA in Early Childhood. I take great pleasure in the time I spend with the children each day. One of my focuses is to create an environment that fosters close relationships between the caregiver and child. This authentic relationship naturally encourages the development of confidence and independence. Being a part of this connection and observing each child’s emotional and physical growth offers me immense satisfaction. I enjoy keeping up to date with early childhood development research through national and state conferences, training workshops and independent studies.I am a mother of four children: Samantha, Brock, Blake and Brooks. I’m also a “Naani” to five grandchildren: Abigail, Macie, Brenna, Magdalena & Nathan. I enjoy practicing Kundalini yoga & meditation, hiking, gardening, traveling and reading. I hope to include India, Switzerland and Barcelona in my travels as my time and schedule allows.
I am an infant/toddler teacher at BDLC. I have a CDA in Early Childhood. I am originally from Iraq. I was born in Baghdad in 1972. I finished my education in Baghdad, graduating in 1989 from high school. In 1992 I graduated from Teachers’ Preparatory Institute in Physical Education. I was hired directly after graduation as a teacher in an elementary school in Bagdad. I came to the USA in June 2010 and my first job was MCCSC lunch room supervisor. I enjoy being a teacher because I love children. I have been married since 1992 and I have three boys: two of them are in Bloomington South High School and one in elementary school.
Rachel Hancock (with BDLC since 2008)
I am a preschool teacher at BDLC. I was born and raised in Bloomington, IN. Growing up I was always eager to babysit and be around children younger than myself and I always enjoyed helping others. When I reached high school, at Bloomington South, I knew where my future was going. Throughout high school I worked at various camps and babysat nearly every weekend. When I finished high school I immediately started on my associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. During my schooling I began working at BDLC as support staff, working with all ages. While working as a support staff I found my heart to be with the preschoolers. When I finished my associate’s degree I began working in the preschool room at BDLC as assistant teacher in 2009. I have a daughter, Annabelle, born on April 14, 2010 that also attends BDLC. I plan to pursue my bachelor’s degree to further my education and continue learning about what I enjoy most: how to help children blossom into the people they will one day become.
My name is Aubrey Reynolds, and I am an infant/toddler teacher at BDLC. I originally hail from Springfield, Illinois, but when I came to Bloomington for graduate school, I fell in love with the town. After earning a Master’s degree in English and completing the coursework for a PhD, I decided to leave academia and stay in Bloomington. I spent one year studying healthcare, but after thoroughly enjoying my work as support staff at BDLC, I decided to pursue a teaching position here. My daughter has attended BDLC since August of 2010, and I love the community I’ve found here. In my time as a teacher at BDLC, I hope to support many families during these wondrous and crucial infant and toddler years as my daughter and I have been supported. I am completing a new degree in Early Childhood Education.
Brandy Lazell (with BDLC since 2009)
My name is Brandy Nicole Lazell, I am an infant/toddler teacher at BDLC. I have been happily married to the love of my life for over four years, and we have been together for over ten years. I have three nieces and two nephews all of whom are my world, and I love to spoil them rotten and then send them back home. I have been working in childcare since 2000 and I enjoy working with the children and my coworkers. I recently decided to go back to school for my CDA and I am also completing a degree in Early Childhood Education.
Hi, my name is Jill Hayes and I am a preschool teacher in the Penguin room! My husband and I moved to Bloomington in December 2012 from Champaign-Urbana, IL where he attended graduate school. While in Champaign, I worked at a full-time child care center where I was the Assistant Teacher in the three-year-old room. I’ve always had a passion for education and I find there to be nothing more rewarding than exploring the world from a child’s perspective. I am working on a degree in Early Childhood Education. I’ve been able to gain so much valuable experience in my years in the classroom and I feel like continuing my education is the next piece of the puzzle. When not in the classroom, I enjoy cooking, reading, and traveling!
Debbie McGill (with BDLC since 2014)
My name is Debbie McGill. I am now an infant/toddler teacher at BDLC. I am originally from Seymour, Indiana but I have lived most of my adult life in Bloomington. I have five wonderful children and a new grandson named Henry who was born in January of this year. I have a cat named Molly. I love to spend time with my family and friends. I like to read and spend time walking and being at home with my cat. I have worked at St. Charles Pre-School and Daycare since August of 2010. I love working with this age group. I am completing a CDA in Early Childhood Education.
I am a preschool teacher at BDLC. I am from Ellettsville, Indiana. I have always wanted to go into education to make a difference and to watch students rise to their full potential. During high school, I was a child care provider at a daycare and did a lot of babysitting for family and friends. I am currently a graduate of Ball State University with a degree in Elementary Education. I was very involved during school through education clubs that provided me with professional growth and volunteer opportunities. I worked a lot with students in grades preschool through fifth grade. I was able to assist students in their education emotionally, socially, physically, and academically. In my free time, I love to be outdoors and going to the movies with my family and friends. I also love finding and reading new children’s books that I could use with children. Two of my all- time favorite authors are Dr. Seuss and Eric Carl. I look forward to working with your child(ren) and watching them grow day-to-day!
I am an infant/toddler teacher at BDLC. I was born in Spain, lived in England until I was six, and after a few more moves around the United States, my family finally settled down in Loogootee, a small town about an hour south of Bloomington. I spent a few years in Bloomington, earning my degree in Early Childhood Education and held many internships and part time jobs working with children of all different ages. I then spent two years in Evansville, Indiana working as a toddler teacher. While living there I became engaged to my best friend, Jonathan, and moved back up to Bloomington. Although I’ve worked with infants all the way up to teenagers, toddlers absolutely have my heart. There’s nothing like witnessing a child’s first steps and first words, seeing his or her face light up as they independently figure out the answers to something in which they’ve been working at so hard.
When I’m not working with little ones, I love to be outdoors- camping and hiking is always a blast as Jon and I love to get off the trails and practice our wilderness survival skills! I also love to cook, sing, and play my ukulele.
I previously worked at BDLC as a support staff and couldn’t be happier to be back as a full-time teacher.
I am an infant teacher at BDLC. My name is Melissa Mueller or as many BDLC people call me Issy. I began working at BDLC in 2005 and started as as support staff. In May 2012, I graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education from Indiana University and became a full-time teacher.
I love working with children and giving them a nurturing classroom in which they may grow and learn to their full potential. I live in Bloomington and have since I was little. I took an adventure and moved to Michigan for a little bit but now I am back. I am now an infant teacher. Art is one of my hobbies that I love to do. Drawing is what I usually prefer but I do paint a little. I have been doing it since I was very young and still do it every chance I get. I also enjoy hanging out with friends, family or babysitting. I am excited to have my own classroom and start my next adventure.
I am an infant/toddler teacher at BDLC. I was born and raised here in Bloomington and live with my husband and our two dogs. My favorite thing is to be outside in nature and explore. I also enjoy exercising and yoga. I know some sign language and encourage its use inside the classroom to assist younger children in communication before they have spoken words.
In 2012 I obtained my Associates degree in Early Childhood Education from Saint Mary of the Woods College. I have experience at two other schools and have been teaching for six years now and excited to be at BDLC!
