Full-Time Teachers

Melinda PeekMelinda Peek (with BDLC since 2000)

I’ve been with the babies at BDLC since February 2000.  I take great pleasure in the time I spend with them each day.  One of my focuses is to create an environment that fosters close relationships between the caregiver and infant.  This authentic relationship naturally encourages the development of confidence and independence within the infants.  Being a part of this connection and observing each infant’s emotional and physical growth offers me immense satisfaction.  I enjoy keeping up to date with early childhood development research through national and state conferences, training workshops and independent studies.I am a mother of four children: Samantha, Brock, Blake and Brooks.  I’m also a “Naani” to five grandchildren: Abigail, Macie, Brenna, Magdalena & Nathan.   I enjoy practicing Kundalini yoga & meditation, hiking, gardening, traveling and reading. I hope to include India, Switzerland and Barcelona in my travels as my time and schedule allows.

Ronak Al Barazinge (with BDLC since 2011)

I am from Iraq. I was born in Baghdad in 1972. I finished my education in Baghdad, graduating in 1989 from high school. In 1992 I graduated from Teachers’ Preparatory Institute in Physical Education.  I was hired directly after graduation as a teacher in an elementary school in Bagdad.  I came to the USA in June 2010 and my first job was MCCSC lunch room supervisor.  I enjoy being a teacher because I love children.  I have been married since 1992 and I have three boys: two of them are in Bloomington South High School and one in elementary school.

Rachel Hancock Rachel Hancock (with BDLC since 2008)

I was born and raised in Bloomington, IN. Growing up I was always eager to babysit and be around children younger than myself and I always enjoyed helping others. When I reached high school, at Bloomington South, I knew where my future was going. Throughout high school I worked at various camps and babysat nearly every weekend. When I finished high school I immediately started on my associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. During my schooling I began working at BDLC as support staff, working with all ages. While working as a support staff I found my heart to be with the preschoolers. When I finished my associate’s degree I began working in the preschool room at BDLC as assistant teacher in 2009. I have a daughter, Annabelle, born on April 14, 2010 that also attends BDLC. I plan to pursue my bachelor’s degree to further my education and continue learning about what I enjoy most: how to help children blossom into the people they will one day become.

Kersten Zorn (with BDLC since 2013)KersetnZorn

Hi! My name is Kersten Zorn and I was born and raised in Bloomington, IN.   I am a new employee to BDLC. I attended Bloomington High School South and after graduation attended Ivy Tech for a year.  I also began working with MCCSC at Binford, Childs, Highland, Lakeview, Templeton, and University Elementary schools for the School Age Care program. I worked at those schools for 4 years and then moved onto Clear Creek Elementary school to pursue a full time job in an Inclusion-Based preschool classroom for a year. After working for MCCSC for 5 years, I realized that my interests are focused purely on children. I am going back to Ivy Tech in the fall and plan to major in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education. I couldn’t be more excited! Some interests I have include anything involving music…concerts, music festivals etc. I enjoy being active and love babysitting and doing spontaneous things! I am a pretty outgoing person and very talkative once you get to know me. I occasionally paint and my boyfriend is really getting me into some poetry. I love BDLC and the children here and hope to have a great year!

Aubrey Reynolds (with BDLC since 2011)

My name is Aubrey Reynolds, and I am a Lead Teacher at BDLC. I originally hail from Springfield, Illinois, but when I came to Bloomington for graduate school, I fell in love with the town. After earning a Master’s degree in English and completing the coursework for a PhD, I decided to leave academia and stay in Bloomington. I spent one year studying healthcare, but after thoroughly enjoying my work as support staff at BDLC, I decided to pursue a teaching position here. My daughter has attended BDLC since August of 2010, and I love the community I’ve found here. In my time as a teacher at BDLC, I hope to support many families during these wondrous and crucial infant and toddler years as my daughter and I have been supported.

Brandy LazellBrandy Lazell (with BDLC since 2009)

My name is Brandy Nicole Lazell, I am an Lead Teacher at BDLC. I have been happily married to the love of my life for over four years, and we have been together for over ten years. I have three nieces and two nephews all of whom are my world, and I love to spoil them rotten and then send them back home. I have been working in childcare since 2000 and I enjoy working with the children and my coworkers. I recently decided to go back to school for my CDA and I am also working towards my associate’s degree.

Cori Sulinski (with BDLC since 2008)

Hi, my name is Cori Sulinski. I have been a part of the BDLC staff since August 2008. I started as an assistant and then the following summer I was offered a lead teacher position. I worked in high school at a local Christian Daycare where I fell in love with working with young children. I spent two and a half years studying secondary education at IU and then realized that JR/SR high school just wasn’t my passion. While at IU, I worked for the Indiana Reading and Math Team and did tutoring at Rogers Elementary School. I truly have found such great joy in working with kids and feel that they often teach me more than I can teach them. I recently received my CDA from Ivy Tech and am now working to complete my degree in Early Childhood Education.  I got married in May 2009 to my best friend. We purchased our first home together in June 2009 in Ellettsville. I have two mini schnauzers (Jack and Emma) that are amazing and constantly bring a smile to my face. I enjoy spending time with my family, going golfing with my husband and playing with my dogs.

Jill Jill Hayes (with BDLC since 2013)

Hi, my name is Jill Hayes and I am the Assistant Teacher in the Penguin room! My husband and I moved to Bloomington in December 2012 from Champaign-Urbana, IL where he attended graduate school. While in Champaign, I worked at a full-time child care center where I was the Assistant Teacher in the three-year-old room. I’ve always had a passion for education and I find there to be nothing more rewarding than exploring the world from a child’s perspective. My next goal is to further my education which I plan to continue starting fall of 2013. I’ve been able to gain so much valuable experience in my years in the classroom and I feel like continuing my education is the next piece of the puzzle. When not in the classroom, I enjoy cooking, reading, and traveling!
